Sketching at Typist Studios Coffee

We're meeting at the beautiful, cozy Typist Studios Coffee to sketch! Please note, all sketchers should make a purchase from the cafĂ© as they are graciously opening early for us!

This space is charming one filled with artefacts and furnishings, and has delicious coffee. It is very popular with local patrons and sketchers.

8:30am - Meet and greet at Typist Studios. Grab your drink and/or snack, and sit with your friends or meet new ones! We will disperse to sketch individually or in small groups depending on personal preference but please be mindful that this is a public space and you may have to share a table with other sketchers.
10:30am - We will place our sketches together on a large table at the throwdown where we will share our sketches. Vivian will advise which area the throwdown will be in.

Sketching at Beethoven and Brahms Concert by Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra

REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Read carefully below.

We've been invited by the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra's Beethoven & Brahms performance! It's a community orchestra (mix of professionals, university music students and high level community amateurs) so there will be an interesting mix of faces and instruments to sketch. The soloist has the use of one of the fine instruments from Canada Council's instrument bank this year and is a rising classical star. Please do not bring any wet media that can cause spillage or disruption. Kindly keep any wet media to a waterbrush only, dry media preferred. The concert will be from 7:30-10:00pm.

7:00pm - Please check in with Judy at the front to confirm attendance before proceeding to the box office to claim your complimentary ticket. Please note if you are late you'll be responsible for your own entrance and we cannot guarantee you'll be let in. We'll be directed to various seats throughout the house with different views! Your placement will be up to the venue.
Please note due to the nature of this meetup there will be no meet-and-greet at the beginning. It will be moved to the end (after the performance).

10:00pm - We will meet in the lobby to share our sketches at the throwdown. Throwdown location subject to change; please check with Judy.

[EVENTBRITE RSVP REQUIRED] Sketching at U of T Growth Facilities

 WEDNESDAY MARCH 27, 2024



IMPORTANT: EVENTBRITE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Tickets will be checked upon arrival. If you don't have a ticket, you will be turned away as the venue capacity is 20 sketchers. If you are registered but can no longer attend PLEASE CANCEL your ticket so someone else can have a chance. If you aren't sure how to cancel, please email us at toronto.urbansketchers@gmail.com
We'll be meeting at this fantastic location to sketch plants and foliage from all over the world.
11am - Meet at the penthouse (5th floor). Vivian will be checking tickets. We will do an optional short meet-and-greet
11:10ish am - We will disperse to sketch individually or in groups, depending on personal preference. Please note there will be a 5-sketcher maximum in each house.
1pm - Meet back up on the 5th floor to share our sketches at the throwdown

The collection houses are on the penthouse (5th) floor of the North Wing of the Earth Science Centre (Rooms 5001, 5003, 5007, and 5009). To get there, take the stairs from 25 Willcocks Street or 33 Willcocks Street. Elevator access is available from the 33 Willcocks Street entrance.

Sketching at Brookfield Place (Galleria)

 MONDAY MARCH 18, 2024


We're returning to Brookfield Place to sketch! There is a nearby Tim Horton's so you can grab a coffee while you sketch. Please do not impede pedestrian traffic.

Brookfield Place Toronto is a landmark address epitomizing the commercial, cultural and social fabric of Toronto. Internationally acclaimed for its iconic architectural design, it features soaring, light-filled public spaces including the award winning Allen Lambert Galleria.

5:30pm - We'll meet up at the Galeria (main floor) for a quick meet-and-greet for anyone who is interested.
5:40ish - We will disperse to sketch individually or in small groups depending on personal preference.
7 - We will meet in the lobby to share our sketches at the throwdown.

[DEMO+MEETUP] Sketching at Sheridan College in Mississauga! Demo by Hagen Materne

 WEDNESDAY MARCH 13 2024


***Hagen Materne will be doing a follow-along demo at 7pm. Don’t be late!*** Hagen will show how to quickly establish an accurate perspective of a place from a photo and then demonstrate how to activate your sketch.  It is planned that students and sketchers draw along through this exercise.  

7pm - We’ll meet at on the Ground Floor in Creative Commons beside the orange staircase. See exact spot on map below.
Approx 7:40pm - After the demo (30-40 min) we will disperse to sketch in groups with the students for anyone who is comfortable doing so. Hagen will be answering questions and providing guidance upon request.
9pm - We will meet in the lobby to share our sketches at the throwdown.

We'll be sketching with Sheridan College architecture students and faculty again. There are lots of cool places, displays, and people to sketch at this location. If the weather is nice, there may be some outdoor sketching potential nearby.

The city and GO bus terminals are just a few minutes’ walk down the street. There may be free parking available at Square One Mall but please note the parking is for mall patrons only so if you'd like to park there, please feel free to grab a snack or dinner before the meetup. There is paid parking at the college.
